I had to do a combination of drilling lots of little holes and using my jigsaw to cut the round hole. The scariest part was drilling a hole in the side of the house to put the vent. I got lucky and managed to avoid any wiring. Following the advice of friends, I painted all exposed edges of the masonite through which I cut, and caulked the heck out of the the vent hole. So far it has withstood the rain.
